For this job, we simply split into two men doing different tasks in preparation for the installation of the new bed beams. One person was measuring twice and cutting once, whilst the other was reshaping the soil in preparation for the altered border dimensions. We used an STS hammer action drill with stainless steel nails to connect the boards together, with the carefully placed and aligned wooden stakes along the perimeter of each bed.
Replacing old rotten log panels is a smart idea for better gardening of your veggie beds as it allows you to lean in closer to the plants in the center without having to step on the tree log perimeter, which gets very rotten over time. Being partially submerged under the soil, it very quickly gets devoured by ever-hungry fungus, which can sprout out rather unsightly mushrooms, and unfortunately not the psychedelic ones, resulting from the rich soil surrounding it and the ubiquity of fungal mycelium within the soil.
